Kidneys play a very important role within the body. They fulfil vital tasks such as filter the body of waste and harmful substances while keeping vitamins, proteins, hormones and other important substances in the bloodstream and help maintain a balanced metabolism. They perform excretory (secretion-forming), regulatory (balance-maintaining) and endocrine (hormone-producing) functions.

General infections, inflammatory processes in the body, poisoning, trauma or old age can reduce the capabilities of the kidneys. Nutrition too has a significant impact on kidney health: an oversupply of grains, phosphorus and synthetic materials in the food can promote and exacerbate kidney diseases, as the breakdown of these substances overwhelms these organs with too much “kidney-burdening substances”.
Such substances are a burden for the kidneys as they need to be filtered and excreted by them, which can lead to permanent overuse of these organ. As a result, the kidneys are more susceptible to insufficiency, failures and diseases.
The same applies to the liver, which as a “central detoxification and storage organ” can not only store vital vitamins and minerals, but is also responsible for the breakdown and conversion of many metabolic particles and excretes toxic substances. The more “liver-burdurdening” substances are supplied, the more workload there is for the organ requiring its overuse which similarly often leads to the liver malfunctioning and illness.

With a particularly high biological value and balanced nutrient components, the specialised menus in the LOW-PROTEIN Line have a limited protein and moderate fat content while the fiber content is increased. Copper, phosphorus and sodium are all reduced.

The menus ensure that there is sufficient calorie intake through low protein energy sources, including  linseed oil, potatoes and the superfood coconut flour. Copper-containing vegetables and fruits are consistently avoided, while healthy herbs including birch, nettle and dandelion are added. These herbs are known for their beneficial effects on the liver and kidneys. Pumpkin, is also added to support kidney function. Grains are avoided as they are difficult for dogs to digest and can lead to the excess formation of waste products, which puts additional strain on the kidneys and liver.
